UFC on FX 5 Results: Post-Fight Facts Wrap

UFC on FX 5: Browne vs. Bigfoot took place Friday night in Minneapolis with Antonio Silva defeating Travis Browne by knockout in the main event of the evening while Jake Ellenberger earned a unanimous decision win over Jay Hieron in the co-main event.

There were plenty of facts to come out of UFC on FX 5, some are notable, others irrelevant and a few are will expand your knowledge.

1 – Aaron Simpson has fought seven UFC fights dating back to Nov. 20, 2010. The only other fighter to have as many UFC fights in that span is Donald Cerrone.

2 – Jacob Volkmann earned the first stoppage of his nine-fight UFC career. Volkmann is now 6-1 since moving to the lightweight division.

3 – Travis Browne was defeated for the first time in his career.

4 – Michael Johnson earned his first post-fight bonus with his “Knockout of the Night” over Danny Castillo.

5 – According to UFC president Dana White, Yves Edwards was told 30-minutes before the UFC on FX 5 main event that he would not be fighting on the card.

6 – UFC on FX 5 drew an attendance of 7,049 for a live gate of $358,000

7 – Antonio Silva earned his first UFC win.

8 – Total fight time for the 10-bout card was 1 hour 21 minutes and 38 seconds.

9 – Diego Nunes, Bart Palaszewski, Michael Johnson and Justin Edwards earned $40,000 post-fight bonuses.

10 – Jay Hieron’s unanimous decision loss to Jake Ellenberger dropped his UFC record to 0-3 dating back to June 19, 2004.

11 – Seven of the 10 bouts on the card were finished inside the distance (Four (T)KO, 3 submission).

12 – Josh Neer’s 45-second loss to Justin Edwards was the fastest defeat of his MMA career.

13 – Six of the seven submission wins in the career of Justin Edwards are by guillotine choke.

14 – Two of the fights on the card (Dennis Hallman-Thiago Tavares, Jeremy Stephens-Yves Edwards) were scrapped within of 24-hour span of the event.

15 – Mike Pierce earned the first knockout victory of his career. Pierce’s remaining stoppages due to strikes are via TKO.

16 – Debuting fighters (Jussier Formiga, Phil Harris) went 0-2 on the UFC on FX 5 fight card.

17 – Josh Neer became the first person in UFC history to lose via technical submission twice.

18 – Of the seven winners from “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show to earn a UFC title shot, John Dodson accomplished the feat in the fewest UFC fights (3).

19 – Diego Nunes has fought to a decision in all 10 of his fights under the ZUFFA banner.

20 – Shane Roller suffered his fourth defeat in his last five fights.

21 – Jussier Formiga was finished for the first time in 16 professional fights.

22 – Michael Johnson joined Stefan Struve, Cub Swanson and Matt Brown as the only fighters who have gone 3-0 in the UFC in 2012.
