UFC 153 Results: Post-Fight Facts Wrap

UFC 153: Silva vs. Bonnar took place Saturday night in Rio de Janeiro with Anderson Silva defeating Stephan Bonnar by TKO in the main event of the evening while Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira earned a submission win over Dave Herman in the co-main event.

There were plenty of facts to come out of UFC 153, some are notable, others irrelevant and a few are will expand your knowledge.

1 – Anderson Silva extended his UFC record for most consecutive wins to 16.

2 – Gleison Tibau has completed 64 takedowns in his UFC career, second in UFC history. Georges St. Pierre holds the record with 68 completed takedowns.

3 – Glover Teixeira landed 117 of 183 total strikes thrown in his win over Fabio Maldonado.

4 – In the five UFC events to take place in Brazil, Brazilian fighters are 23-6 when facing opponents from other countries.

5 – Rony “Jason” Mariano Bezerra, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Jon Fitch and Erick Silva earned $70,000 post-fight bonuses.

6 – Four fighters on the card (Dave Herman, Fabio Maldonado, Joey Gambino, Luiz Cane) suffered their second or third loss in a row.

7 – Jon Fitch has landed 2,149 total strikes in his UFC career, the most in UFC history. Fitch passed Georges St. Pierre for the top spot with his 82 total strikes landed in his win over Erick Silva.

8 – Rick Story was finished for the first time in his 20-fight professional career.

9 – Gleison Tibau has fought in the UFC 17 times in the last 6 years. No other fighter has competed in more UFC bouts in that timeframe.

10 – Total fight time for the 12-bout card was two hours, three minutes and 36 seconds.

11 – Fabio Maldonado was stopped by (T)KO for the first time in his 24-fight career.

12 – Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s submission of Dave Herman was his first submission win since Feb. 2, 2008.

13 – Jon Fitch is the first person to fight to a decision 12 times in the UFC.

14 – Winners of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show (Diego Brandao and Rony “Jason” Mariano Bezerra) went 2-0 on the card.

15 – Stephan Bonnar was finished for the first time in his career via a method other than cuts.

16 – UFC 153 drew an attendance of 16,844 for a live gate of $2,500,000.

17 – Glover Teixeira moved his consecutive win streak to 17 fights in a row.

18 – Demian Maia’s total fight time since moving to the UFC welterweight division is three minutes and 17 seconds.

19 – Anderson Silva is 3-0 in the UFC in the light heavyweight division. He has finished all three of those fights in the first round. Silva’s total fight time in UFC as a light heavyweight is nine minutes and four seconds.

20 – Dave Herman suffered the first submission defeat of his career.

21 – Anderson Silva tied Georges St-Pierre, Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture for the second most wins in UFC history at 16. Matt Hughes holds the record with 18 wins.

22 – Jon Fitch has the best submission defence in UFC history. He has escaped 25 of 25 submission attempts in his UFC career.

23 – Demian Maia earned his first submission win since Feb. 21, 2009.

24 – Brazilian fighters went 6-3 on the card.

25 – After opening his UFC career with a 6-1 record, Rick Story has lost three of his last four.
