UFC 148 Results: Post-Event Facts Wrap

Since the “8 Facts About ‘X’ Event” is one of the most popular pre-fight articles here at Fight Cove, a fact-orientated post-fight article was recently introduced for your knowledge and pleasure.

UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II went down last Saturday night in Las Vegas with  Anderson “The Spider” Silva defeating Chael Sonnen for the second time in the main event of the evening.

There were plenty of notable facts to come out of the event, so be sure to check them out below:

1 – Eight of 11 fights on the card went to a decision (72 percent). This equals the highest percentage of decisions on a UFC card this year.

2 – UFC 148 set a record for largest MMA gate in the history of the United States at 7 millon dollars.

3 – UFC 148 was the seventh event in UFC history with no “Submission of the Night” bonus. Post-fight bonuses were introduced at UFC: Ortiz vs. Shamrock 3 – The Final Chapter on Oct. 10, 2006.

4 – Anderson Silva is the first man to defeat Chael Sonnen with strikes. Sonnen has suffered one TKO loss before, however it was due to cuts.

5 – John Alessio is the only fighter in UFC history with an 0-5 record in the organization.

7 – Anderson Silva extended his record-setting streaks for most consecutive UFC wins (15) and most title defences (10).

8 – Tito Ortiz retired from mixed martial arts following his unanimous decision defeat to Forrest Griffin.

9 – No fighter currently in the UFC Hall-of-Fame has ended his UFC career with a win.

10 – Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz have shared a total of nine rounds or 45-minutes of fight time in the Octagon together.

11 – Chad Mendes’ 31-second TKO of Cody McKenzie was his first finish due to strikes under the ZUFFA banner. It was also his first win inside the distance in the UFC.

12 – Cung Le is one of four fighters on the UFC roster who is at least 40 years old. The other three are Dan Henderson, Anthony Perosh and Vladimir Matyushenko.

13 – Demian Maia’s TKO of Dong Hyun Kim was his first TKO win in 14 UFC fights.

14 – Khabib Nurmagomedov remained undefeated and has won 18-straight fights.

15 – Dong Hyun Kim is the first fighter to lose by a UFC fight by TKO (Injury) since Aaron Riley against Tony Ferguson at UFC 135 in Sept. 2011

16 – Patrick Cote has not won a UFC fight since a split decision victory over Ricardo Almeida at UFC 86 on July 5, 2008.
