Three Bouts Added To The UFC 153 Fight Card
The UFC 153 fight card, scheduled for Oct. 13 in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, is quickly filling up as three new bouts have been added to the card.
Demian Maia faces Rick Story in a welterweight contest, “The Ultimate Fighter” season 14 winner Diego Brandao taks on Joey Gambino and Luiz Cane makes his middleweight against Chris Camozzi.
All three of the match ups pit a Brazilian fighter against an American fighter, which looks to be a common theme for the fight card.
UFC officials confirmed all three bouts via a press release on the organization’s website.
Maia (16-4) was successful is his welterweight debut at UFC 148, defeating Dong Hyun Kim by TKO after Kim suffered a rib injury. His second fight in the weight class comes against Story (14-5), a grinding wrestler who holds a 7-3 record in the UFC with highlight wins against top contenders Thiago Alves and Johnny Hendricks.
Brandao (14-8) will attempt to rebound from a disappointing defeat to Darren Elkins in May with a strong performance in Brazil. Brandao’s opponent, Gambino (9-1), did not have the smoothest of UFC debuts as he was submitted in the first round by Steven Siler at UFC on FX 4. The American will look to even up his UFC record against the “TUF 14″ winner.
After a number of injuries and withdrawals from scheduled fights, Cane (12-4, 1 NC) has his sights set on finally making his middleweight debut at UFC 153 after fighting his first 17 professional bouts as a light heavyweight. Welcoming him to the weight class will be Camozzi (17-5), a veteran of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show who has won back-to-back UFC fights, both by third-round stoppage.
UFC 153: Aldo vs. Koch goes down from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Oct. 13. The main event of the evening will see Jose Aldo make his third featherweight title defence against Erik Koch.
Along with the Aldo vs. Koch headliner, a light heavyweight contest between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Glover Teixeira has been confirmed for the event.
