The 6 Best Photos From UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Mir

As the old saying goes “a picture is worth a thousand words”. The saying applies to this day and without a doubt, applies to mixed martial arts as some of the sports most historic moments are relived through the images that captured them.

There is nothing better than a snapshot of a fighter dealing with tragedy or triumph, or a picture of a perfectly timed strike, every microscopic fragment of impact relived as limbs and jaws collide. A photo can display a range of emotions, happiness and sadness, victory and defeat. Every picture is different, each having a unique distinction and personal story.

That being said, lets look back at the 6 best photos from “UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Mir”.

6. Shane Del Rosario’s Cut
The UFC debut of Shane Del Rosario didn’t go as planned for the American fighter as he was TKO’d by Stipe Miocic in the second round of their heavyweight main card bout. Del Rosario left the cage requiring more than just a few stitches as he suffered two nasty gashes above his right eye at the hands of his opponent.

3. Jamie Varner’s Punch
Former WEC lightweight champion Jamie “The Worm” Varner had the most shocking performance of the night at UFC 146 when he TKO’d Brazilian phenom Edson Barboza in a jaw-dropping upset. Varner was patient with his stand up attack until he eventually hurt the Barboza with a few massive right hands to the jaw and showed brilliant killer instinct for the first-round stoppage.

2. Diego Brandao’s Flying Punch
Although “The Ultimate Fighter” season 14 winner Diego Brandao was upset by Darren Elkins, the Brazilian had one of the most thunderous strikes of the night when he dove through the air with a flying punch to the jaw of Elkins. It was a devastating right hand to the jaw but due to the solid chin of Elkins, the fight went on. Somewhere, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is proud.

1. Antonio Silva’s Face
Cain Velasquez made a horror movie out of Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva’s face en route to a brutal TKO stoppage in the co-main event at UFC 146. Silva began pouring blood after the former heavyweight champion landed a slashing elbow to the forehead in the opening seconds of the first round. From that moment on, it was just a matter of time until the fight was stopped as Silva lost more blood than any human being rightfully should.
