Patrick Cote vs. Alessio Sakara Set For UFC 154 In Montreal
Both fighters are coming off losses in their most recent fights and are on losing streaks under the UFC banner. Another loss could potential mark the end of one man’s career in the UFC.
The 185-pound contest was confirmed by UFC officials on the UFC Canada Twitter account.
Cote (17-8) is a Quebec native and will have the opportunity to compete in front of his hometown crowd at UFC 154. “The Predator” was released from the organization in Oct. 2010 but a four-fight win streak on the regional scene earned him a new contract with the UFC. The 32-year-old returned to the Octagon at UFC 148, losing a unanimous decision to Cung Le. Cote is in desperate need of a victory at UFC 154, as he has not won a fight in the UFC since July 2008.
Sakara (15-9) will return to the Octagon to compete for just the second time in 19 months at UFC 154. “Legionarius” last fought Brian Stann at UFC on FUEL TV 2 in April and was knocked out two-and-a-half minutes into the first round. Sakara has had a long tenure in the UFC, stepping into the cage a total of 13 times since 2005. The Italian is 6-6 with one no contest in that time and will look to push his record above even when he takes on Cote.
With Cote and Sakara known to strike in their fights and hunt for knockouts, their fight at UFC 154 should be nothing less than a stand up battle.
UFC 154 goes down Nov. 17 from the Bell Center in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. A welterweight championship unification match between Georges St-Pierre and Carlos Condit headlines the event.
