Fight Coverage: Top Headlines Of The Week (September 24th-30th)

For the second of four consecutive weeks, the UFC held an event as UFC on FUEL TV 5: Struve vs. Miocic went down last Saturday at Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England.

The organization’s thirteenth free event of the year featured a strong contingent of fighters based out of the Europe and Stefan Struve defeated Stipe Miocic by TKO in the main event. Seven of the 11 bouts on the card were finished inside the distance with Struve, Miocic, Brad Pickett and Matt Wiman walking away with $40,000 post-fight bonuses.

As usual with all UFC events there was plenty of news in the lead-up and fallout that have mixed martial arts fans talking.

  • UFC President Dana White said he made a deal with light heavyweight champion Jon Jones not to talk about Jones’ head coach, Greg Jackson.
  • The UFC held a press conference in Montreal to announce UFC 154: St-Pierre vs. Condit for Nov. 17 at the Bell Center. UFC Director of Canadian Operations Tom Wright, Georges St-Pierre and Carlos Condit were in attendance to answer questions from the media.
  • Matt Mitrione was blasted by UFC President Dana White for turning down a fight with Daniel Cormier at Strikeforce on Nov. 3
