Fight Coverage: Top Headlines Of The Week (June 18th-24th)

Two major events went down over the past week as the Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to FX for the fourth time with a Friday night show as “UFC on FX 4: Maynard vs Guida” went down Atlantic City, NJ and the organization returned to PPV with “UFC 147: Silva vs. Franklin II” from Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

As usual with any UFC fight week, there was plenty of news going into and coming out of the event that has mixed martial arts fans talking.

If you have been living under a rock and happened to miss any of them, here are the top headlines from June 18th – June 24th.

  • “UFC on FX 4: Maynard vs. Guida” went down last Friday night from The Revel Casino & Resort in Atlantic City, NJ. Gray Maynard defeated Clay Guida via split decision in the main event.   • “UFC 147: Silva vs. Franklin II” took place Saturday night from the Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Rich Franklin defeated Wanderlei Silva by unanimous decision in the main headlining bout of the evening. “UFC 147: Silva vs. Franklin II” Event Results.

  • The rumoured main event1 for UFC 152 in Toronto, Canada between Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez for the heavyweight title has now been labeled “unlikely” to take place at the event.
  • Former PRIDE heavyweight champion and former Strikeforce heavyweight contender Fedor Emelianenko announced his retirement from MMA following a first round knockout of Pedro Rizzo at an M-1 event in Russia.
  • The UFC will not hold tryouts for season 16 of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ reality show.
