Dana White Says UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II Will Have The Biggest MMA Gate In The History Of The United States
If UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II wasn’t a big enough event already, UFC president Dana White has confirmed that the July 7 event will have the biggest gate for an event held in the United States in MMA history at 7 million dollars.
White confirmed the news in a UFC 148 pre-fight interview with ESPN reporter Todd Grisham.
Tickets for the event were some of the most expensive in the history of the organization, ranging from $125-$1200. While the 7 million gate will not break the all-time record for the sport (that honor goes to the 11 million dollar gate at UFC 129 in Apr. 2011), the event set to take place July 7 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas is slated to set a new record for the United States.
Read a transcription of White breaking the news to Grishman below.
“Not only might (Silva vs. Sonnen) be the biggest rematch in UFC history, but probably the biggest fight. We have all kinds of ways to tell how a fight is trending and how big it is, this fight’s been number one on every trending list and all the ways we can tell how big a pay-per-view is going to be and how big – and not to mention the fact it’s the biggest gate ever in the United States at 7 million dollars.”
With the event just days away, expect the fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena to rock the house for UFC 148 this Saturday night.
