Alistair Overeem: Cain Velasquez Is Going To Get The Belt From Junior Dos Santos At UFC 155
Few are keeping a closer eye on the UFC 155 main event between Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez than Alistair Overeem.
According to comments from UFC President Dana White following the UFC 153 post-fight press conference earlier this month in Brazil, the former Strikeforce champion will receive the first title shot against the winner at UFC 155.
Overeem was scheduled to challenge dos Santos for the title at UFC 146 in May, however the Dutchman’s well-publicized suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission forced him out of the bout and Overeem has not seen action for nearly one year.
During his time off, the 32-year-old has had gone back-and-forth with dos Santos in the media, calling the champion “scared” among other things. A dos Santos vs. Overeem title fight is what many fans want to see, however, Overeem believes Velasquez is going to get in the way of the match up becoming a reality.
“I think Cain is going to do good in this next fight,” Overeem told Spencer Lazara of MMA Interviews. “I think he might even get the belt. I think he’s going to get the belt. I thought so the first time then he lost the belt, but I think this time could be different.”
“I would not be fighting dos Santos for the belt, but then Cain.”
While Overeem is expecting Velasquez to pull out the victory, at the end of the day he does not care who wins at UFC 155 and will fight whomever the UFC matches him up with – title or no title.
“I’m going to fight whoever they put in front of me,”
