Alan Belcher, Yushin Okami Set To Rematch At UFC 155 In Las Vegas
The latest addition to the UFC 155 fight card is a significant middleweight clash between top 185-pounders Alan “The Talent” Belcher and Yushin “Thunder” Okami. The bout will be a rematch from UFC 62 in Aug. 2006, an event where both men made their UFC debut and Okami walked away with a unanimous decision victory. Over six years after the initial meeting, Belcher gets his shot at vengeance.
MMAFighting.com first reported the match up.
Belcher (18-6) has been hampered by injuries in recent years, which up until his last fight, a first round TKO of Rousimar Palhares at UFC on FOX 3, prevented him from building any real ground in the UFC middleweight division. “The Talent” has only competed three times since the beginning of 2010 but is now completely healthy and is looking to make a title run at 185-pounds. The 28-year-old has won six of his last seven bouts with the lone loss coming via controversial split decision against Yoshihiro Akiyama all the way at UFC 100 in July of 2009.
Okami (27-7) got back in win column last month at UFC 150 when he defeated an overmatched Buddy Roberts by second-round TKO. After losing back-to-back fights to Anderson Silva and Tim Boetsch, the Japanese fighter bounced back with a dominant performance and reasserted himself as one of the top middleweight fighters in the world. Okami holds a 10-4 record under the UFC banner with four of his last six fights ending by (T)KO.
While the Dec. 29 UFC 155 event has yet to be formally announced by the organization, a heavyweight championship bout between Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez is expected to headline the card.
A location for the event is unknown at this time. However, in recent years, the year-end UFC fight cards have taken place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
